The BlackBerry Priv Review; Bringing Privacy To The Android Platform

The BlackBerry Priv is perhaps a testament that the Canadian device maker has finally bowed out of the Mobile Operating System (OS) competition. BlackBerry (BB) has surrendered to Google with its Android; “if you can’t fight them, join them.”

As consumers that mean, you get to enjoy the both of the two worlds; you still get your plethora of apps to choose from on Android, with the top notch security provided by BB technology. The BB team is confident that with the BlackBerry Priv, users will not face any malware, data leakage or any of the security risks known to exist with on the Android platform.

BB says the encryption technology used in making the phone will ensure that user’s files and sensitive information never leaves the device.

BlackBerry Priv Review

Display: It has a 5.4-Inch curved super-high resolution AMOLED Display with 1440×2560 pixel (like Samsung Galaxy S Edge series).

Hardware: It runs on a Dual-Core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 and a Quad-Core 1.44 GHz Cortex A-53 processor and a 32GB, expanded to 200GB. Coupled with a 3GB RAM. This 5.4-inched device is a too much a handful for those with small palm sizes, but if touch screen has never been your thing! You will enjoy the physical QWERTY keyboard on the BlackBerry Priv.

Software: This phone comes with the Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) out of the box, but you can upgrade to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). Its curved screen doubles up as a notification panel allowing you see snippets of what’s happening on the device. However, you can change the tab size, its location within the display or do away with it altogether. When you swipe the tab towards the center of the display, an overlay appears and shows you unread messages, calendar, tasks, emails and frequent contacts.

BBM Messenger Update

BB has also revamped its messaging platform BBM app for BlackBerry, Android, and iOS devices. The update enables BBM users to take advantage of enhanced privacy and security features rivaled by very few messaging apps out there in the market.

The new updated BBM allows users to take back sent messages and videos from the recipient’s inbox. Users can also set a time limit for the messages to stay in the recipient’s inbox. This ability can come in handy especially in those instances when you send a message to the wrong person.
