#BringBackOurGirls – 1 Year After, 219 Still Missing, And The World Will Not Forget

April 14, 2014 – Islamist militia Boko Haram stormed a Nigerian Government Secondary School located in a remote area in Borno State. The militia took hostage 276 girls at the school who were preparing for their end-of-year exams.

The girls would then become just another pawn in a chess game played by the Boko Haram Islamist militia and engaging the Nigerian law-enforcement authority.

Held as hostage to make both a religious and political statement, of group endeavors to thwart the sanctity of democracy, women rights, child rights, freedom to worship and insult the very fabric that makes humanity.

All in a corrupted ideology of the Muslim faith; this could not be further from the real value of this religion that upholds peace. Ever since the tragic day of the kidnap, 51 girls are said to have so far escaped from Boko Haram leaving 219 others still unaccounted for. Yesterday Nigeria and the world at large commemorated the kidnapping of these girls, and that the society still makes every bit of effort to ensure they will return home to their family and friends.

Mainstream media and social media, yesterday paid tribute to the Chibok girls under various hashtags: #BringBackOurGirls, #ChibokGirls, #NeverToBeForgotten and #ChibokGirlsClock.
