How To Enter DFU Mode in iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPhone 4 Running iOS 8, iOS 7 [Guide]

DFU stands for Device Firmware Upgrade. DFU mode is a familiar term in the iOS and jailbreaking world. DFU mode is used for rebooting tethered iOS devices, accessing firmware of iOS device in order to make upgrades and downgrades. If you enable DFU mode in your iPhone, it allows you to interact/interface with the iTunes without needing to bootload or download the complete iOS or iTunes in the OS. Putting your iPhone in DFU mode gives you a type of ‘GOD’ mode which the simple device owners cannot ever think of. Apple upgrades the firmware with every new model of its iPhone. DFU mode allows you to upgrade your firmware to the latest one or downgrade the firmware to a previous, stable version. DFU mode can be enabled in iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 4 and all the earlier versions.

You can put your iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPhone 4 in DFU mode by following the easy steps given below.

Enable/Enter DFU Mode in iPhone

Connect your iPhone with a Windows PC or Mac. Launch iTunes in the computer.

Switch off your iPhone by holding the power button for a while or swiping manually by holding power button to turn off the iPhone.

Press and hold the power button of your iPhone for exactly three seconds.

Now press and hold the HOME button (without leaving the power button) of your iPhone for ten seconds. [This means that you are holding HOME and Power button for ten seconds in this step]

Now release the power button but DON’T leave the HOME button of your iPhone and keep it holded for 15 seconds more and you will see a prompt in your iTunes saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

The screen of your iPhone will be black and it is now in the DFU mode.

You must note that when you put iPhone 6, iPhone 5 or any other iPhone in DFU mode, its screen will be black. If you see an ‘apple’ logo, or any other message, that means that you haven’t done the process right and you need to revise the process.

When your iPhone is in DFU mode, although the screen may be black but you can interface iTunes with your iPhone and play with firmware and this is the real deal.

Disable/Get Out of DFU Mode in iPhone

To disable and get out of the DFU mode in iPhone, press HOME and power button and hold them until you see the Apple Logo (this should be done while you are connected to iTunes).
