Orange telecom has inked a partnership with search engine giant Google to bring the best of mobile internet connectivity to users across Africa and the Middle East (MEA).

This partnership will leverage on Orange’s mobile network and mobile expertise combined with Google’s mobile applications. In a move that will offer the telecom’s subsribers the best from Orange and Google in as far as access and content through an all-inclusive digital communication package goes.

The partnership seeks to deliver a package tailored to the needs of the MEA market. Orange subscribers will now have access to a wide range of best-in-class online services that include (but not limited to) content covering fashion, sports and music, everyday tool like Google Search, Google Maps and YouTube.

As a follow up to Orange ongoing success in delivering affordable smartphones to the MEA market. The telecom will embark on an educational campaign that will advise customers on the benefits and direct value of using mobile internet.

Through its partnership with Google, useful information will now be easily accessible to the users. Take, for instance, users will be able to quickly search for answers instantly using Google Search or locate the nearest health facility on Google Maps. They are also working on incorporating new languages like Arabic, to cater to the Middle East market. Other languages will also be added with time.

The digital communication package is especially well-adapted to youth who have high data usage and want the latest generation smartphone. Customers will receive one of the most competitively priced tariff plans in the region starting at $40, which will consist of a high-specification smartphone and a communication bundle with voice, SMS and data.

The offer will be delivered in a phased approach and will start to roll-out across the full Orange MEA footprint in Q2 this year. The device will launch with the native set of Google services and the goal of the partnership is to develop local services and content over time.
