Telkom Kenya (Orange) was once the preferred mobile service carrier for individuals and companies looking for affordable and reliable mobile internet connection. However, somewhere along the line, it was overtaken by Airtel Kenya. The rain began beating Telkom Kenya when Airtel introduced its unliminet mobile data package.
In a move to recapture its shrinking market share, the telecom has revised charges for its mobile data packages. Users can now browse the internet at the cost of 9 cents per MB in a new volume-based mobile data bundles.
The data plans are packaged in daily, weekly, monthly, and ninety days bundles, with each bundle having an extended period before expiry.
George Mlaghui, the Chief Corporate Communications at Telkom Kenya says the revised data plan fee is targeting tech-savvy businesses that use the internet to achieve their goals.
Mlaghui said, “Telkom Kenya seeks to provide value to our customers through our service and offerings.”
The telecom has also set up a notification system that will alert users when they are approaching the depletion of the subscribed data plan. Upon the exhaustion of your data plan, users will surf the internet at the cost of Sh.4 per MB. Telkom has also enabled users to purchase another data plan before the expiry of their subscribed plan, which will extend their subscription as per the plan subscribed. However, the user must purchase another data plan equal to their current or one that is higher.
