Zimbabwe and Nigeria startups have been testing out bitcoin remittances options. The two startups, BitMari and Tanjalo from Zimbabwe and Nigeria respectively have successfully sent funds from Nigeria to Zimbabwe via bitcoin.
Tim Akinbo, a co-founder of Tanjalo successfully sent $15 from Nigeria to a recipient in Zimbabwe using bitcoin. BitMari just completed successfully setting up its Lighting notes to support the cryptocurrency network. The Lighting network is reportedly growing fast barely a month after being launched on the main-net.
“BitMari’s quick adoption of Lightning is active use of bitcoin and blockchain technology to solve real world challenges facing Africans on the continent and in the diaspora, such as costly remittance fee,” said Sinclair Skinner, a co-founder and CEO of BitMari.
BitMari is reportedly working on improving user experience to increase its services adoption and ultimately pass value of speed and affordable remittance services to the end customers.
