Startups across Kenya are currently polishing their product sparkle to qualify for the Nairobi Innovation Week to be held in March 2018. The pitch competition will only admit top 100 best startups in Kenya for the competition at the University of Nairobi.

This year’s competition will be the fourth edition, and will be themed ‘Innovating for a better tomorrow.’ This time around, startups will be the only mainstream focus for the event, unlike the yesteryears.

The organizing committee for the pitch competition has partnered with various startup incubators and accelerators in the country to make this year’s pitch competition more competitive. These partners include the UNICEF, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Swahilipot Hub, iHub, iBizAfrica, Metta, and Villgro Kenya, and Viktoria Ventures.

The chairman of the planning committee for the Nairobi Innovation Week, Dr. Tonny Omwansa, said: “We are delighted to share collaborative platform with serious players in the regional and international startups ecosystem. We are hopeful that NIW startups is a springboard for increased collaboration among the many organizations involved.”

Bernard Chiira, the incubator manager at iBizAfrica which was very instrumental in the 2017 NIW competition, said:

iBizAfrica, Strathmore University has been an active participant in the Nairobi Innovation Week for the past two editions. I have witnessed Nairobi Innovation Week grow to become one of Kenya’s fastest growing platforms for startup support and funding, showcasing Kenya’s most innovative startups and driving collaboration and growth of the startup ecosystem in Kenya.

This year, I expect NIW to attract Kenya’s most innovative startups at all levels from seed to scale-up. I am very optimistic that NIW will leave a mark as the go-to conference for startups, investors, and innovators in Africa.”
