Agility launches third annual contest to capture images of modernizing Africa

Agility, a leading global logistics provider, is inviting photographers across Africa to take part in the Africa 2017 Photo Competition, a contest intended to showcase images that redefine Africa by telling the story of its youth, growth, urbanization and technological sophistication.

The contest, in its third year, will accept entries from professionals and amateurs alike from June 1 – Sept. 1 at www.africa-2017.com.

Agility will present awards in three categories – Industry, Technology, and Cities. Each category winner will receive a cash prize of $2,000. A grand prize winner will collect an additional $2,000. The winning photographs will be shown on a CNBC Africa telecast, published in Forbes Africa and featured in Agility social media, promotions and advertising.

The competition demonstrates Agility’s determination to reflect the vibrant, modern reality of Africa in 2017,” said Geoffrey White, CEO of Agility Africa. “Africa is a region undergoing rapid change, and many perceptions of it are outdated. We hope the competition will be a window on the dynamic, prospering Africa where companies like ours are doing business and developing talent.”

Agility’s Africa 2016 Photo Competition drew 2,500 entries submitted by photographers from 30 countries. Winning entries depicted a fisherman in a canoe on Lake Victoria on his laptop, a solar farm in Rwanda powering 15,000 homes, and the skyline of Harare, Zimbabwe at dusk.

Judges for the 2017 contest are Sneha Shah, Managing Director, Thomson Reuters Africa; Bronwyn Nielsen, Group Executive Director and Senior Anchor, CNBC Africa; and Salim Amin, photographer, filmmaker and Chairman Camerapix.

Agility, provides freight forwarding and operates a range of businesses in Africa, is investing in international-standard warehouse parks designed to be an infrastructure platform that help multinationals and local businesses to grow and develop. “Agility is deeply committed to the African market and a firm believer in the opportunities the continent presents,” White said.
