African Women in Technology AWIT Conference

Nairobi, Kenya. July 19, 2018 — The African Women in Technology (AWIT) Conference, a 3-day Conference focused on empowering, educating and connecting African women in business and technology, is scheduled to hold from July 19 – 21, 2018. Hosted  yearly by IBOM LLC, the Conference focuses on advancing the careers of African women in the technology industry regardless of what stage they are in their careers or businesses.

Since 2016 , the AWIT Conference has taken place in Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique and the United States, and has been attended by over 1000 women – entrepreneurs, investors, professionals – from around the world who go on to share their experiences at the Conferences to inspire others.

This year’s Conference will take place at Nairobi Garage  with the theme ‘Be Bold’. Speakers, attendees and all participants will get the opportunity to meet and interact with established African and global women leaders and tech makers who have created opportunities for themselves and others in spite of challenges in their paths and against all odds.

All sessions that make up the 3-day Conference are free and open to the public, however, attendance is strictly by registration via the AWIT website.

A unique addition to this year’s Conference is finding and matching interns to entrepreneurs and companies in attendance and also pairing the women attendees as mentors and mentees who will go on to support each other long after the Conference is over.

Speaking on the driving mission of the Conference and her experience facilitating building bridges between Africa tech and the Diaspora, Anie Akpe, Founder at AWIT and IBOM LLC says:

“This year our focus theme is Be Bold. Essentially the message is encouraging all participants to step outside of their comfort zones. The topics covered this year will give tips on exactly how to make bold movements while navigating through the tech space.

We are very proud that Nairobi Garage will host the AWIT conference in collaboration with IBOM LLC. It is an exciting initiative, which highlights and supports the important role of women in business.

It’s incredible to support an initiative that not only focuses on the local community but it also presents the potential to develop opportunities that contribute to the economic empowerment of women in Africa, we are looking forward to yet another fantastic event at Nairobi Garage ” – Hannah Clifford, Director of Nairobi Garage.

The AWIT Conference 2018, Nairobi Chapter, promises to set up women in technology in Kenya, off to a great start in 2018 with valuable connections, relevant information and tools, and the synergies of like-minded individuals from Africa and other continents.
