Agriculture Experts In East Africa To Convene A Meeting In Dar es Salaam on Jan 28

January 28, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania will play host to over 800 agricultural experts from within the East Africa region. The event will be at the opening of the Agribusiness Congress East Africa Conference that is set to deliberate on finance, best agricultural practices and sustainability in the East African region.

The conference is expected to attract all stakeholders in the agribusiness ranging from the input suppliers, commercial farmers, agro-processors, retailers, traders, policy makers, exporters, and associations.

East Africa is increasingly perceived as an agribusiness investment destination with more than $3.4 billion being invested in Tanzania alone,” said Liam Beckett, the Agribusiness Congress East Africa-Events Director.

Beckett further identified African countries that show great potential in agribusinesses, such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zambia, Mozambique, Liberia, and Malawi. He stressed the importance of embracing new technologies and modernization of farming techniques if agribusiness is to exploit its full potential.

Beckett also expressed optimism with regards to the financial capabilities of farmers to purchase new equipments, given more insurance companies, financial institutions, and other private stakeholders are increasingly availing financing and insurance tools to farmers. The upcoming Agribusiness Congress East Africa is set to bring together the important players both in the public and private organization across the East African agricultural sector.

Some of the topics expected to be discussed at the event include:

  1. Driving the Business mindset in East African farming community.
  2. Promoting East Africa as a prime agribusiness investment destination.
  3. Post-harvest losses and sustainable agricultural practices.
  4. Empowering the emerging farmers.
