Airtel In Partnership With Samsung Launch African App Challenge Competition

In a move to show commitment towards empowering the youth in Africa, telecommunication company Airtel has partnered with tech giant Samsung to launch the African App Challenge.

This competition is part of a wider competition bringing developers from across Africa and Asia who will first compete against fellow developers within their continent. The emerging two winners will proceed to the grand finale to be hosted in Singapore where the overall winner will be announced.

This purpose of this contest is to highlight start-up developer from the two continents and identify the ‘next big app developers’ who could be brought aboard Airtel group of companies. Samsung is also looking to identify developers who would help the company launch meaningful apps into the two continents.

We hope to partner with like-minded individuals who will come forward and work together with us to come up with apps that will help us deliver the best smartphone experience for customers,” said, Christian de Faria, the Airtel Africa CEO.

This competition will run for five months, during which contestants will develop consumer-centric mobile apps that leverage on mobile network services including data, mobile, SMS, and carrier billing.

Developers that want to participate in this competition have up to until September 15th, 2015 to submit their applications. From this point, judges will select two outstanding developers to proceed to the next level of the competition. The Start-up Mentorship Program to be held in Singapore in October 2015. The developers that emerge as the overall winner will be announced in November 2015. They will then commence on their assignments with Airtel group of companies starting next year.
