The subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, Network i2i Ltd, acquires MENA Submarine Cables

Bharti Airtel’s Kenya’s division Airtel Kenya has announced the expansion of its 3G and 4G network to 40 new towns across the East African country.

Airtel Kenya as the second biggest telecom operator in Kenya recently secured a merger deal with the third biggest telecom operator Telkom Kenya making a single entity describing itself as Airtel-Telkom.

In this latest expansion drive, Airtel Kenya (or is it Airtel-Telkom) will see the installation of over 800 new 3G and 4G sites across the country. A move well informed by the growing demand for mobile data across Kenya as more people take up usage of smartphones.

Airtel says the new network sites will go a long way in boosting the telecom’s network capacity and increase data speeds thus giving end consumer quality service. Areas included in the 800 sites 3G and 4G network expansion include towns like Nakuru, Kisumu, Nyeri, Bungoma, Garissa, Meru, and Lamu.

Airtel is committed to constantly innovate and improve on the quality of its products and services as an active competitor in the Kenyan market,” said Airtel Kenya CEO Prasanta Das Sarma.

As such, we are delighted to be increasing our 4G sites across the country. The expansion of our network coverage will ensure that the majority of the urban population are well covered.”
