Ugandans are set to enjoy faster internet connection speeds as one of the country’s leading telecom companies; Airtel Uganda launches 4G LTE network across the country.

Airtel Uganda has upgraded its telecom network fitting some 404 sites in Kampala and 126 sites upcountry with the LTE mobile telecommunications technology. Airtel believes the faster internet communications will boost businesses and individuals’ productivity by easing communication and faster online transactions.

Airtel is also confident the faster internet connection will, in the long run, lead to more businesses scaling up their operations as well as providing new business opportunities for the country. The telecom has about 10 million subscribers out of the 23 million mobile telecommunications service subscribers in Uganda.

The telecom is currently urging its customers in Uganda to visit Airtel shops nearest to their location to have their old 2G and 3G SIM cards changed for free. When a customer swaps their old SIM card for the new 4G-enabled SIM card, they get 4GB data for free. New customers can get the 4G Airtel SIM card at UGX 2,000 and 1GB of data for free.
