Yeah, yeah… Wakanda Forever! But Wakanda is not real! However, the Senegalese-born and American singer Akon wants to make a real-life Wakanda, and the folks in it will be using his new cryptocurrency named (after himself) AKoin.
Akon made this revelation during the Cannes Lions Festival held on Monday. While speaking at the event, Akon said he strongly believes cryptocurrency might just be “the savior of Africa.” If you think this is just talk, well the AKoin move already has a site setup, in which it says it wants its app to be on every mobile phone between now and December.
Akon further says he is planning on setting up a “crypto city” in his home country Senegal. He referred to that city as “a real-life Wakanda.” Akon promises his Wakanda will have “futuristic environment” just like the one we see in Marvel’s Black Panther film.
The AKoin website goes further to reveal that Akon has been gifted 2,000 acres of land by the President of Senegal, upon which he can set up the real-life Wakanda; which will be named after himself.
The Akon Crypto City will be a short-drive from Dakar, the capital of Senegal. Akon describes his city as the “first 100% crypto-based city with AKoin at the center of transactional life.” In his city, residents living and working within the “AKoin Ecosystem” will be able to buy, store, and spend cryptocurrency from their smartphones.
“It brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system… It also allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down,” explained Akon.
How exactly is Akon going to do all that? Well, he admits he doesn’t know the technical aspects of it.
“I come with the concepts and let the geeks figure it out.”
