A security firm FireEye has identified a group that has been conducting persistent digital espionage in South East Asia and India for about a decade now. The security company has termed this group as APT30, where ‘APT’ stands for ‘Advanced Persistent Threat’.
According to FireEye’s CTO, Bryce Boland, all the signs and evidence at hands point an accusing hand to a Chinese development and Chinese involvement. This conclusion was reached after the firm audited the nature of the digital espionage targets and their code base.

The APT30 were after sensitive information from government agencies and were able to infiltrate countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and Nepal. According to FireEye, the group was in possession of intimate knowledge of very sensitive military, economic, and political information about the targeted countries.
It is also said that the APT30 have been using over 200 different versions of malware on their targeted countries ever since 2005. They also launched sophisticated attacks on air-gapped networks.
