Application for the Women in Computing Scholarship now open

Women in Computing Scholarship

Female undergraduates pursuing careers in computer science are encouraged to apply to the Women in Computing Scholarship by Dotcom-Monitor and their load testing tool, LoadView.

Dotcom-Monitor purposes to support one female undergraduate pursuing computer science each year with raising the amount to meet their tuition fee. The Women in Computing Scholarship will gives $1,000.

This scholarship was launched by Julia Garbuz in 2016, as a sophomore at the University of Minnesota where she studied Computer Science and Management Information System while interning at the Dotcom-Monitor.

Women in Computing Scholarship Eligibility

The scholarship is open to all female students currently enrolled to a full-time undergraduate computing course at an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Canada for the academic year 2017-2018.

The applicants must have already declared their major or have completed at least one academic year in computer science, computer engineering, or any other technical field closely related.

How to apply

The scholarship began receiving applications in January 1st 2018 and the window closes on April 1st 2018 at 11:50 PM CST. To apply, you need to submit responses to the questions below alongside your college/university transcripts (or other verification of enrollment/major declaration) and general information through the online application. All documents should be in PDF format.

Submit essays answering the following questions. One essay per question (max 500 words per essay):

Tell us about yourself.

What kind of power does the degree you seek hold? How does it affect our world today, and how do you plan to use your degree to further advance the field?

Why do you think women should pursue computing? What can women provide to this field? How would you encourage women to join this field?

 

The winner of the scholarship will be announced by May 1st, 2018.

Applicants may reapply each year, but can only be awarded the scholarship once. For more information, head on to the LoadViest testing site at this link.
