Hoping the dust of Christmas is beginning to settle in readiness to rise again for the New Year’s Day celebration before we’re back to school or work in January. Before we jump into the dull subject that is January back to school, back to work, let us review the year 2016 and look at some of the best apps that made the cut to the A-List of Apps for the year 2016.
The best Top 10 Best Apps of the year 2016 are as follows:
#1 Pokemon Go:
Hardly surprising, isn’t it? This augmented-reality mobile game became an instant hit the day it was launched on apps stores. Part of the success the game enjoys is because of the fact it strikes a nostalgic chord for many that grew up watching the animated character in the cartoon series Pokemon. Pokemon Go brings to life pocket monsters right into your neighborhood. The mobile game leverages on Google Maps and GPS systems to give players an interactive gaming experience as they roam about hunting the Pokemon.
#2 – Prisma:
People love being loved; being the focus of admiration and attracting attention. So much so, that apps that tweaks a person’s look some notches higher become an instant hit, and Prisma knows best how to tweak a person’s looks to the best levels achievable.
#3 – Snapchat:
Apparently people don’t like it very much when they are taken on record. You only need to look at the popularity of the disappearing or self-destructing messages on Snapchat to drive home that point; people don’t like being taken on record. Snapchat has been in existence for a couple of years, and the recently introduced add-on features such as Snapchat Stories, Face-masking filters and its transformation in a social-media platform has seen Snapchat popularity grow.
#4 – Instagram:
Perhaps one of the most notable changes on Instagram is the change of the Instagram icon. Previously it was a square flat icon, but the new icon now has curved edges and has a reserved design but still quite eye catching. Instagram is by some measures a Snapchat-wannabe, it tries so hard to copy features from Snapchat in the hope it will get Snapchat loyalist shift camp. Those efforts are too little (if any) avail. The most recently introduced feature, Instagram Stories, and Instagram live videos.
#5 – Super Mario Run:
Nintendo second best performing mobile game within its first week of release is the Super Mario Run. And just like Pokemon Go, Super Mario Run success is riding on the players’ nostalgia of the past days when they used to save the princess from the monster and hear the Mario theme song play in the background. Well, Nintendo has brought back the game in the form of a Super Mario Run mobile game and is currently just available for iOS devices only.
#6 Uber
The taxi-hailing app has redefined how people commute by introducing better and efficient services. Users now can just call an app from their smartphone or computer and the taxi will pull up to their location just outside their doorstep. No more waiting and fighting with other commuters over taxis.
#7 – Musical.ly
This is a multimedia app that allows users create a short lip-sync video. Users get to select songs stored on their online library or those locally stored on their devices. Users can also apply filters to the videos collected, add slow motion effects and even add some reverse video affects. The created video can be stored locally or shared with family and friends online.
#8 – Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular apps that has undergone a complete overhaul over the course of this year. Users have now more choices in how they can exchange messages and express themselves. Other than the usual text messaging, users now can make both audio and video calls. You also have the option to edit images and even make a doodle.
#9 YouTube Red
YouTube’s premium version YouTube Red has set out to deliver premium content to viewers. Being a paid service, users are spared from the pesky ads overlays. You also get the option of saving videos offline for later viewing. YouTube Red also has premium videos that do not appear on the free version, YouTube.
#10. Google Allo, Google Duo, and Google Assistant
Google made strong headlines this year, first by launching the Pixel smartphones and secondly by launching some nifty apps. There is the Google Assistant, which is your virtual assistant on Android giving you the same assistance as Siri on your iOS devices, and Cortana on Windows 10 devices. Google Assistant comes with Android Nougat 7.0 and above. It made its debut on Google’s Pixel smartphones. To rival WhatsApp and iMessage, Google has its Allo messaging app. All is a cross-platform messaging
