Black Girls CODE will be hosting a five a five days hands-on and project-based instruction event for ladies aged 13-17 in New York starting August 10th to 14th. The event will engage the girls in tech instructions and will be running for six hours daily with a lunch break. Some of the activities at the event will include community building, field trips and of course coding.
The camp will provide girls of color an environment to learn computer science and some coding principles in the company of other girls like themselves. They will also be given mentorship from professional women that they can look up to.
Black Girls CODE Vision
STEM careers are projected to grow by up to 17% by 2018 compared to the 9.8% of non-STEM careers. Technology shapes the lives of virtually everyone from across the globe and is poised to expand even further. Every single individual deserves an opportunity to be part of this tech revolution, and Black Girls CODE wants to ensure that Black girls and girls of color are not left out.
Black Girls CODE nurtures and instills an interest in STEM among them to ensure they are prepared to take leadership roles as well in this tech revolution. The organization hopes the girls will create their own STEM organizations and create social good within their communities.
