Black Panther breaks Box Office Records and sets Twitter on flames

Twitter reacted, and is still reacting, following the worldwide debut of Marvel’s latest box office hit, the Black Panther. The first Marvel’s movie where African culture, traditions, music, and even languages were the center stage. Not forgetting it was directed by a black director (Ryan Coogler) and most of the cast were black; including the main super hero.

Other than being Marvel’s first largely black cast super hero movie, the Black Panther also broke the ceiling for Ryan Coogler in terms of his top-grossing film. The movie also broke the record of the highest debut ever for a film debuted in February, having a domestic gross of $192 million in the three days following its release.

It also secured the 5th biggest domestic opening in the U.S. of all time and it is the best launched superhero movie coming second only to Marvel title The Avengers (2012). Experts say that by Monday (today), the movie is predicted to have earned $387 million.

It is also brought a rare Africans in flocks to the theatres around the continent. They came donning their traditional attire; the weekend was African fashion weekend. And why not, it was the first Hollywood that best depicts their culture, tradition, and clothing.

Twitter was set a blaze

It would be appear anybody who had an opinion on the movie took to Twitter to air out. Under various hashtags like #BlackPanther #WakandaForever and #BlackExcellence among others, tweets were sent in their thousands.
