Block And Track – An SMS-based Vehicle Security And Tracking System Invented In Kenya
It works by having the car-owner install the program under the hood of the car: connecting wires and other hardware components to the car’s engine. After properly setting up the hardware onto your car, you can then use SMS commands from your mobile phone to do basic things like locking the car’s doors, turning the car’s engine on and off, closing and opening the windows among other things. In the event your car gets stolen, there is no need to panic. By simply sending an SMS command with a code to immobilize (stop) the car, the car will halt at whichever location it is, as long as it is still within the range of the mobile operator network coverage.
If you would like to monitor the movement of your car or fleet of vehicles, the Block and Track system will locate the vehicle on a map and show you in real time the specific location of the vehicle. In addition to this you will also be able to know the vehicles speed. The Block and Track system configuration to the vehicle also incorporates a microphone fitted inside the car. This will allow you to listen in on the conversation inside the car remotely.
Block and Track system also has the following features:
- GPS Satellite position based on the latest SiRF 3 technology that can give you the location of the car with an accuracy of about 5m.
- Geo-fencing: restricting the car from going outside a given region.
- Determine the maximum speed that vehicle will be allowed to move.
- You can also alarm and disarm the car by just SMS commands.
- You can check the status of your vehicle remotely via your phone: if the doors are locked, if the ignition is on and if the power is at 100% among others.
Morris Mbetsa came up with this invention when he was 18 years old. The strongest selling point about the Block and Track system is its simplicity and yet achieving high efficiency. At this stage, it doesn’t require any computer to be installed in the vehicle or payment of any monthly subscription fee. All the car owner would require is a mobile phone and some airtime in order to secure and track his car.
