Samsung last week gave the world yet another flagship in its lineup of devices, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The world seems to be in love with it so far, and there are no reports of any extreme defects or displeasures with the device; no exploding battery or anything terrorizing like that.
However, most of the news about the Galaxy S8 and S8+ doing rounds across the internet are all about the screen size, design, battery, and of course Bixby AI personal assistant. There is little to no feature on the Bluetooth 5.0 that comes with the flagship phone.
The Galaxy S8 is the first phone to feature the Bluetooth 5.0, which was first released in June last year. Among of the new capabilities that come with this new Bluetooth technology is the ability to connect two Bluetooth headsets simultaneously to the S8 phone. Meaning you can listen to podcasts, songs, and also watch a video all at the same time.
Advantages of Bluetooth 5.0 over its predecessor Bluetooth 4.2
On top of the ability to connect two audio speakers at the same time, Bluetooth 5.0 has more additional feature over its immediate predecessor, the Bluetooth 4.2. These features include:
Ø It has four times wider range of connection (240 meters) more than the Bluetooth 4.2. Your connection will remain even when obstacles is in between the two devices. Ideally, that should mean you can still continue playing music from anywhere inside your house.
Ø Bluetooth 5.0 has a faster data transfer speed; double that of Bluetooth 4.2. On paper, the data rate of Bluetooth 5 is said to hit a maximum of 2 Mbps.
Ø Bluetooth 5.0 has 8 times the broadcasting capacity of its predecessor. That means a device adhering to the standard can send larger packets. In layman’s terms, that means the devices will lossless the audio streaming and users are likely to experience little to no disturbance during calls.
No doubt this next generation Bluetooth connection will help Galaxy S8 in establishing better IoT connections with other devices. If all the devices in the network would have Bluetooth 5.0, there will be smooth and faster communication between the IoT devices. They would also not need to use an app or mediator to facilitate their interconnected communication.
The news Bluetooth standard has location services embedded into it, and that will enable malls to send out special notifications to shoppers whenever they approach specific areas.
