The government of Nigeria will on Dec 15, 2016 launch the Federal Government Information App FGI App to keep Nigerians in the loop of what is happening in the Buhari administration.
The app is meant to give Nigerians accurate information about the government day-to=day dealings. This app will complement other Buhari administration news dissemination tools like the Federal government official Twitter handle (@AsoRock), Facebook account, and Newsletter. Judging on all the official Federal government news outlets the Buhari administration has availed to Nigerians. One begins to question if really, an additional app by the Buhari administration for disseminating Federal government news is something Nigerians will be thrilled about.
“Newspapers are no longer as powerful as they used to be,” said the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a meeting with the Resident Information Officers from the ministry.
Alhaji went further to say, “Before newspaper editorial can bring down a government. Gone are those day when the ‘Sunday Times’ sold half a million copies in one day. But today the new media is the social media, and unless you are there and show a very strong presence, you are not communicating to the world. We need technology to inform the world on what we are doing and with the new applications every person in the world will get to know what is happening in the country in real time”
The RIOs from the Federal government ministries, departments, and agencies have been tasked to keep the app constantly updated with new and relevant content. The FGI app has been nicknamed the Buhari app, and will run on both Android and iOS devices.
The FGI app was developed by Olawole Falope, and will be launched tomorrow in Abuja.
