Wednesday this week, Microsoft unveiled interesting updates that will be coming soon to their Remote Desktop Services (RDS) solution. The RDS solution, allows you access Windows desktop applications and environment that are remotely based. And you can do so from just about any device.
Now, Microsoft has updated RDS to support HTML5 browsers, meaning you can now access the services from any browser. The HTML5 update brings you an entirely browser-delivered RDS experience from virtually any device; as long as the device supports HTML5 browsers.
Before this update, RDS experience on multiple platforms was delivered through a dedicated client. Microsoft had designed such clients to run on Windows, Windows 10 S, Android, and iOS ecosystems.
Microsoft further announced they are upping the RDS security using the Azure AD authentication. The new RDS-hosted environment will have extra layers of Azure-AD-powered security features like Conditional Access policies, Multifactor Authentication, Integrated authentication with other SaaS applications using the Azure AD.
Microsoft has further isolated the infrastructure roles (Gateway, connection broker, and Web among others) from your desktop and app deployment hosts. That was done to increase the security levels of the virtualized environment.
