You can now make Voice Calls on Google Duo

To add another headache to telecom’s in their fight to remain relevant in today’s world where over-the-top (OTT) services are becoming cooler, popular and operating at a fraction of the cost. Google Duo too now has voice calling feature just now availed to everyone around the world.

Google Duo joins a growing list of instant messaging apps that offers video, and voice calls over the internet. Duo voice call joins an increasingly crowded marketplace that has Skype, as the veteran, and new kids on the block like Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and more recently Telegram among many others.

Voice calling on Duo has been available for some time now, but it was only limited to a select number of users. That was a deliberate move to enable Google iron out any bug issues before making it available worldwide. Justin Uberti, Principal Engineer at Google and Technical lead for Duo broke the news on Sunday that voice calls was now available worldwide.

If you are running the latest version of the app, you might have some difficulty spotting the new voice call feature. To get the voice call function, tap the screen, and you should see the audio or video call toggle, to make voice call or video call respectively.
