The five international football (soccer) players who hail from Africa and made it to the 2017 BBC African Footballer of the year are:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Naby Keita
Sadio Mane
Victor Moses
Mohamed Salah
The five-man shortlist was revealed on a special live broadcast by the BBC from London. The nominees were discussed by a panelist that included Cameroon’s 2017 African Cup of Nations winner Arnaud Djoum, Nigeria’s 1996 Olympic football champion Emmanuel Amuneke, and Uganda’ national team and Crystal Palace ladies squad Jean Sseninde.
Votings are now open, and fans can vote for their favorite footballer out of this list of five. The player with the most votes will be crowned the BBC African Footballer of the Year 2017 on Monday, December 11, 2017. The live announcement will be made on the BBC World TV and BBC Service Ration from 17:35 GMT. The BBC Africa and BBC Sports websites will also carry the news.
Gabon and Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang is appearing on this list for the fifth time in a row. This is the third nomination to this list for the Senegalese and Liverpool’s star Mane. As for the rest of the nominees, this is their first time to make it to this list.
Ironically, no Cameroonian made it to the list this year, despite the fact they triumphed in the February Nations Cup. A team selected this list made up of journalists from across Africa and BBC staff.
You can vote for your favorite player at this link. The voting period will close on November 27th at 18:00 GMT.
