CAPA: Ethiopian Airlines To Overtake SAA As Africa’s #1 Carrier
According to Centre for Aviation (CAPA), Ethiopian Airlines is currently Africa’s carrier with the largest fleet. It is also on the track to surpass South African Airways (SAA) later this year in terms of the numbers of passengers using the airline.
The airline is said to have doubled the number of passengers it carries since the year 2009 to over six million currently. For the 2013/2014 financial year, the airline made a net profit of R1.85 billion; a 54% increase compared to the previous fiscal year. It also won 10 international awards. The airline has grown to be twice the size it was in the last ten years.
During the same time, SAA carried 7.1 million passengers and had a net loss of R2.7 billion.
