It started off as rumors with the Bluetooth SIG filings that the Redmond tech company Microsoft is working on releasing a new keyboard fitted with a fingerprint sensor. It turns out; those rumors were true as Microsoft officially unveils a new Modern Keyboard with features that accurately fits the rumored keyboard.
The keyboard looks more or less like the current Surface keyboards, but with one big difference. It comes with a Fingerprint ID sensor, which essentially brings Windows Hello Fingerprint Authentication to all Windows 10 devices.
The fingerprint sensor is located next to the right Alt key on the keyboard; it looks like any other key. The Modern Keyboard casing is an aluminum frame, which Microsoft says makes the keyboard indestructible and of the highest quality.
The keyboard can connect both wirelessly or via wired interface to devices. Microsoft says it comes with advanced Bluetooth pairing experience. You can supposedly connect it to a device at first OOBE.
Two AAA alkaline batteries power the Modern Keyboard. The keyboard is also compatible with the following operating systems:
*Windows 10/8.1/8
*Windows 10 Phone
*Mac OS 10.10.5/10.11.1/10.11.4
*Android 4.4.2-5.00
The host device must support at least Bluetooth 4.0 or higher. The Modern Keyboard will go for $129.99. In other news, Microsoft has announced the rebranding of the Surface Mouse to Modern Mouse and will be sold at $49.99.
