Chrome Data Saver Mode Gets An Upgrade To Save 70% Of Your Mobile Data Plan

Chrome mobile browser dominance within the mobile space is a far cry from Chrome browser dominance in the desktop space. Personally, I use Chrome as the default browser on my desktop computer. Although I would love to do the same on my Android smartphone because of its brilliant synchronization feature across different devices. The truth is; Opera Mini with its Opera Max data saver app does a much better job.

If you are on a slow connection, that also happens to be metered, and charges are quite high. I would recommend Opera Mini over Chrome mobile browser in saving your data plan. But we all know Google is not the type of Company that likes to play second best at anything. Currently as far as saving data on mobile Internet usage is concerned, Opera Mini takes the lead.

That is not to say that Chrome mobile browser is a data hog that will quickly max out your data plan; an enormous concern for those on a metered connection. Indeed, Chrome browser does have its Data Saver mode that to some extent reduces the amount of data you use while browsing. It is just not as good as the Opera Mini, which gets even better when you add the Opera Max app.

Perhaps that might soon change if the announcement made by Google on its blog post is anything to go by. Google announced that they had revamped Chrome mobile browser enabling it to save “up to 70 percent, by removing most images when loading a page on a slow connection. After the page has loaded, you can tap to show all images or just the individual ones you want, making the web faster and cheaper to access on slow connections.”

It would be nice to use Chrome as my default browser on my mobile phone, that way I could enjoy all the benefits that come with synchronization across different devices. If you share the same view and would like to make Chrome the default browser on your mobile phone because of its revamped Data Saver mode. You must wait a little longer as the new feature will first be rolled out in India and Indonesia. Other countries will get the feature in the coming months.
