Corning Gorilla Glass 4, Said To Be Tougher Than Predecessor And Competitors

Protective glass from Corning popularly known as the Gorilla Glass 3 can be found on most mobile devices from major manufacturers like Sony, Samsung, LG among other smartphone brands. The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is by all measure a good protection glass for your device, but still the manufacturer could not vouch that it could protect your device from a 1m fall.

That is about to change as Corning releases the Gorilla Glass 4, the latest protective glass from Corning. The new glass is said to be as twice as strong compared to its predecessor. The manufacturer claims that the new glass will be able to protect your smartphone better.

Corning says that Gorilla Glass 4 will survive up to 80% of the time, when you drop it from a height of 1 meter. That is more than we can say for its predecessor and its other competitors like the standard soda-lime glass.

James Steiner, the corporate vice president of Corning Specialty Materials said, “With Gorilla Glass 4, we have focused on significantly improving protection against sharp contact damage, which is the primary reason that mobile devices break. Dropping and breaking a phone is a common problem, and one that our customer have asked us to help address.”
