The Dangote Foundation has embarked on a philanthropic project in Kano State, Nigeria worth N4.2 billion ($21.1 million). The Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Zouera Youssoufou revealed this during a meeting with the Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso. She said N1.2 billion will go towards feeding the poor and the less privileged in the society annually.
Youssoufou said her team was currently on the ground in Kano accessing various on-going projects undertaken by the Dangote Foundation. She further said that she was there to assess the work that have been done so far by her team and to ensure that they conform to the designs and people’s expectations of the projects. She urged that given the Dangote Foundation is a global initiative. Thus, they need to ensure it conforms to the international standards, and thus some of the projects must be redesigned to fit the new realities on the ground.
Youssoufou further said that the Foundation’s Micro-Grant program meant to empower the women among other vulnerable groups has so far gulped about N880 million and benefiting 88,000 women. Citing the Animal Traction Program, which works on a revolving fund fashion to empower farmers, which has been said to have cost N160 million so far.
She further said that the Foundation has contracted out pipe-borne water projects. In a move that will see the construction of borehole facilities for 220 communities across 44 local government areas of the state to the tune of N110 million.
