The recently released Huawei P30 Pro is still winning hearts, minds, and wallets of people around the world. One camera feature the company announced seems could possibly earn Huawei a new backlash.

While it is undeniable that the P30 Pro is one of the best camera phones currently in the market. As it comes with various modes, including a night mode for taking clear and depth pictures in the dark; the company claims even in total darkness.

The P30 Pro also comes with the Moon Mode, which is supposed to enable you to take clear close-up pictures of the moon. That is with the phone hooked up to a tripod or zoom lens. During the launch of this phone, the Moon Mode feature was one of the most talked about features on the device.

As it supposed to work out, the Moon Mode uses a special zooming capability powered by a super zoom lens and an AI algorithm. The Earth’s Moon is approximately 384,000 Km away from us down here on the surface. So naturally, the first people to purchase the Huawei P30 Pro or get their hands on it somehow, went to out to try out the Moon Mode.

Reports from these third-party users (independent) seem to indicate that the Moon Mode was nothing more than a marketing gimmick. As out in the field, the P30 Pro does not seem to capture such a clear and detailed image of the moon as the pictures shown during the launch of the phone.

How does the Moon Mode work on the Huawei P30 Pro?

Well, according to Huawei. You need to take the P30 Pro phone and point it to the moon at night. Then simply zoom in on the focus using the pinching gesture. The AI on the camera (which is always active) will help focus on the moon.

One user, Wang Yue with Zhihu, went further to claim that the AI algorithm on the camera works on the images taken by the camera, and after processing it, showcases it in the gallery with details and depth.

In a nutshell, the P30 Pro camera cannot take a detailed picture of the moon as showcased by Huawei during the launch of the phone. However, the AI algorithm on the phone works on the pictures taken; sort of like photoshop.
