Digital Girl, Inc. To Hosts Its Inaugural Benefit To Celebrate Women Pioneers | March 26

Digital Girl, Inc. (DGI), a non-profit startup is set to host its Inaugural Benefit come March 26 2016. The event will be held at the Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center in Bedford Stuyvesant. Kickoff time will be 7:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

DGI will celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring African American women from Brooklyn who have paved the way for other women of color, like:

Playwright and Author, Ntozake Shange.

Best known for her many award winning play turned film, ‘For Colored Girls’.

Former Principal Alvin Ailey, Dancer and Founder of the Dance Program at Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy who has most recently founded her own Performing Arts Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant where the event will be held Dwana Smallwood.

NYC Educator for Special Education, Claudia Whittingham.

Our goal for this

event is to raise awareness as well as funds in support of the valuable educational & life skill opportunities Digital Girl, Inc. provides to New York City’s youth. However, it was important to us that we pick a special month like March, where we can pay homage to the Women, particularly of Color who have broke down barriers, persisted despite the adversity that exists and yet still had the strength to look back to help others do the same,”

said Michelle Gall, the Executive Director and Founder of Digital Girl, Inc.

Based in Bedford Stuyvesant, Digital Girl, Inc., is a 501 (c)(3), not for profit organization dedicated to empowering inner city youth, especially girls to pursue careers and studies in STEM disciplines, therefore maximizing their potential to be contributing individuals in society.

Although relatively new, DGI has introduced Computer Science and Technology to extreme lack of

diversity. Computer Science students on average are only 18% female, 3% Black and 8% Hispanic. Despite a growing demand for jobs in the field, it remains marginalized throughout the US K-12 education system. Digital Girls, Inc. is committed to reversing this trend!
