Download iTunes 12.2, OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 from Command line to Avoid Stuck during Update Problem

Apple has recently launched iTunes 12.2 version and OS X Yosemite 10.10.4, but a number of users have reported that while downloading these two updates, the Apple Mac app store stucks and goes in loop. You will either see “checking for updates” message, which the cursor spinning endlessly in a loop, or things will just go stalled without any update.

Apple Mac app stores deploys a process underneath while making any update. The latest Mac update stuck problem comes when this process goes erratic. It consumes nearly 100% of CPU, leaving nothing to proceed and system goes in an endless loop. The best option to avoid “checking of updates” stuck problem while installing the latest updates of iTunes and Mac OS X is to use command line terminal. But first, if you initiated the process of installing updates from the Mac app store, you should kill the softwareupdated process. Here’s how.

killall softwareupdated

Once the faulty process is killed, you can simply install the new iTunes 12.2 version by running the following command in the terminal.

softwareupdate -i iTunesXPatch-12.2

The problem of Mac stuck while updating has also come for the users who are trying to update to OS X 10.10.4.

You can install the new Mac update from the command line or can deploy the Combo updates, in both cases, there seems to be no problem and everything works smoothly.

Here’s the command to download the OS X 10.10.4 update from the terminal.

softwareupdate -i OSXUpd10.10.4-10.10.4

How is it Apple does not issue any statement about their bug ? Looks like 10.10.3 was a real mess on many points, they should ease the way to update to 10.10.4. I am presently stuck after trying to download Code 6.4
