SICO, the first smartphone maker in Egypt is looking to spread its footprint across the larger African and Gulf market by mid 2019.

The Silicon Industries Corporation (SICO) is seeking to increase exports to other African markets and the Gulf region by the end of 2018 or early 2019. Though it currently has some footprint in the Gulf, it is now starting to embark on aggressive marketing across African markets such as Kenya, D.R. Congo, Mozambique, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana.

It’s a promising market and there’s much less competition than in the Gulf,” said Mahmoud Ali, the Sales Director at SICO, during an interview with Reuters.

SICO is mainly looking at selling smartphones with a price tag of between $50 to $60. It is interesting to note, that SICO was established in 2017 with a $8.4 million capital, and is selling phones under the brand name Nile X, which uses the Chinese design of the 3G/4G U.S. technology.
