Facebook Integrates SMS Functions To Its Messenger App

It is back again, now you can send and receive SMS messages right from your Facebook Messenger. The platform wants to become your one-stop one fully integrated platform for all your messaging needs. Well, at least as far as your Facebook messaging and SMS messaging needs are concerned.

However, this feature is currently only available on Android devices – but not all users from all over the world yet – while iOS devices might have to wait a little longer. To find out if you can start ‘SMSing’ on Messenger, open the app, go to settings by clicking on the top right icon that looks like a person. Scroll a bit down to ‘SMS’ and toggle on the ‘Default SMS app’ option.

Doing the above will effectively make Messenger the default app for all your outgoing and incoming SMS. If you are wondering how are you going to differentiate between the SMS message and Facebook message; given they will all appear the same Messenger platform. Well, SMS messages will be purple in color while Messenger chats will be blue.

With that said, you should also know that sending or receiving an SMS to the Messenger does not require internet connection. However, your carrier will charge you the standard charges for sending or receiving SMS to your mobile number. Sending or receiving Messenger chats will still first require you to connect to the internet.

You will also be glad to know that Messenger SMS supports text, images, audio, video and emoji. You can also share stickers on Messenger through SMS. So going forward, you will never have to choose between chatting on your SMS messaging app, and your Facebook Messenger app. You can simply chat with everyone right from the convenience of opening and running just one messaging app.
