Since the dawn of the internet, cyberbullying has always been a problem, but it has been exacerbated by the widespread use of social media. Since social media brings all your friends into one platform, where it is possible for one post on the platform to reach all of your family and friends. Well, Facebook, as the most popular social media platform of modern times (and the past) has long fought against cyberbullying.

Facebook just announced its latest arsenal against cyberbullying, which gives the user the ability to block certain words or phrase from ever being used to comment on their posts. That is to say, you will soon be able to block comments containing certain words, phrases, and even emoji.

As per the screenshot shared by Jane Wong, the feature is still in development, and it will allow users to select words, strings of words, and emoji that they would like automatically blocked in the comments sections of their posts.

As it works out, the user’s posts will automatically reject and not display any comments made using the blocked word, strings of words, or emoji. The comments made using the blocked words, strings of words, and emoji will, however, show up for the users who posted them alongside their friends. No other person outside the mentioned will be able to see the comments.

The reasoning behind letting people who post ‘bad things’ think their post went through successfully was to discourage means they usually use to circumvent blocking. Since they will think the message has been posted, they will feel no need of using circumvention tactics.
