Foton To Start Assembling Vehicles At Its $11.4M Assembly Plant Set Up In Kenya

Foton East Africa Ltd announced that it will start assembling vehicles in its Ksh.1 billion ($11.4 m) assembly plant in Kenya. The move will lead to the creation of over 150 jobs in Kenya, at its Foton assembly plant established in Nairobi.

Foton East Africa Ltd announced that it will start assembling vehicles in its Ksh.1 billion ($11.4 m) assembly plant in Kenya. The move will lead to the creation of over 150 jobs in Kenya, at its Foton assembly plant established in Nairobi.

The assembly plant is established on a 10 acres piece of land and has customs bonded factory, customs bonded warehouse and body workshop. The facility has a capacity of producing about 3000 units annually. Foton said that it will be assembling a wide range of vehicle that includes pick-ups, buses, tippers, light commercial trucks, prime movers and vans.

Yesterday, the firm unveiled its latest addition to its East African market vehicle models, the VIEW CS2 VAN (pictured above). The model will be assembled in Kenya and distributed to all of the Foton outlets. Foton unveiled this model, before a Beijing Government delegation visit to the Foton plant alongside their Kenyan counterparts. The delegation consisted of:

  1. Guo Jinlong – the President of Beiqi Foton Group
  2. Wan Jinyu – the Speaker of the Senate
  3. Ekwe Ethuro – Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health
  4. James Macharia

Foton began operating in Kenya in 2010. It served as the exclusive franchiser of Foton Motors in the East African market, supplying a full range of Folan vehicle models that includes SUVs, Tippers, Pickups, Lorries, Prime Movers and a variety of bus models.
