Backstage has now raised more than $30 million and invested in more than 130 startup companies led by underestimated founders.
In 2018 Arlan co-founded Backstage Studio which launched four accelerator programs for underestimated founders in Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and London.

Arlan Hamilton built a venture capital fund from the ground up, while homeless. She is the Founder and Managing Partner of Backstage Capital, a fund that is dedicated to minimizing funding disparities in tech by investing in high-potential founders who are people of colour, women, and/or LGBT.

Meet: Ruben Harris, CEO & Cofounder, Career Karma

Y Combinator, class of 2012, Rueben Harris, CEO & Cofounder Career Karma, a startup raised $7 Million in Seed round. Career Karma continues to gain new grounds boasting a 50k user-base of tech enthusiast looking to pursue.

Ruben is leading a gofundme campaign ‘Reskill America: The Great Rehiring Initiative’ that is building a lot steam and creating waves in Silicon Valley. Harris is raising both funds and accepting repurposed electronic devices to retrain America and become instrumental in the redevelopment of the future of Workforce inspired by his own organization Career Karma.

Meet: Alexandra Rossi, Chief of Staff, Rasgo Intelligence

A member of Forbes Women Forum, Ms. Rossi is making waves in the tech scene! Alexandra Rossi is the Chief of Staff at Rasgo Intelligence; a stealth ML company that is reinventing the data prep process. Her focus is to form collaborative, long-lasting relationships with the data science community, while developing the operational and cultural structure of the company to prepare for growth and future investments. As a strategic leader, she oversaw the development of innovative campaigns for brands such as PayPal, Airbnb, YouTube TV, Proximo Spirits, FAGE Greek Yogurt, and more. Her marketing strategies have helped these brands to solve problems and grow their business.

2nd Keynote: Emmanuel Yao, Associate Director, Production Services, Ubisoft Singapore

Emmanuel Yao is an Associate Director of Production Services at Ubisoft Singapore with over 20+ years of software development experience, including more than 15 years in video game development.

His core focus has been studio leadership, global game development, operations, content creation, online services and development support roles.

An international leader with a proven ability to coach, drive and guide cross-functional teams regardless of location, Emmanuel started his software development adventure at Alcatel Telecoms in Paris, France before moving to Montreal, Canada where he joined Ubisoft Montreal. He then transferred to Ubisoft Shanghai, China and later moved to Ubisoft Singapore, where he has been working more than 8 years.

Meet: Shantelle Williams-Valadié, Associate Director at Coursera

Shantelle Williams-Valadié is driven by a commitment to education, technology, capacity building, and international development. She specializes in identifying, negotiating, and executing new, strategic business opportunities and holds domain expertise in edtech.

As an Associate Director at Coursera, she accompanies universities in EMEA, bringing high-quality online education to millions at a fraction of the cost of on-campus learning, including the company’s first-ever online Bachelor’s degree. Before joining Coursera, Shantelle spent years at PwC, developing financial models for key clients building renewable energy and other infrastructure across Europe and Africa.

Shantelle holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and a Masters degree from Sciences Po Paris. A Franco-American with roots in the Caribbean and Nigeria, she also speaks fluent Spanish and conversational Italian. She dedicates her spare time to writing and performing music solo and as a part of vocal ensembles.

Meet: Samuel Nwanze, Chief Investment Officer, Heirs Holdings

Samuel is responsible for the administration and management of the group’s overall financial activities and investment programs.

Prior to joining Heirs Holdings, Samuel worked in banking institutions in various roles where he oversaw strategy, financial control, performance management, and treasury. He also played a key role in the STB-UBA merger. Samuel has a Masters degree in Finance and Management from Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom.
