Ghana Partners With World Bank To Launch e-Ghana Project Worth $97 Million
The government of Ghana has been working hard to transform the country into a middle income economy. Recently Ghana received a boost to its quest after the World Bank came on board in supporting the e-Ghana project which is has an estimated cost of $97 million. The e-Ghana project is a conglomerate of many ICT projects that include e-health, e-justice and e-education.
Some of these e-projects are already ongoing. Ghana’s Minister of Communication, Dr Edward O. Boamah addressing a meeting of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day in Accra expressed the government’s plan to have more sectors of the economy become ICT-driven; including industries such as commerce, transportation, oil, gas, leisure and manufacturing.
Boamah stated, “Governance, politics, religion and indeed our way of life must be ICT-enabled…This is the only way that we can translate the huge investments that government and the private sector have injected into the sector into significant multipliers for our socio-economic advancement.”
Boamah expressed his ministry’s complements to the Ghana’s Judicial Service for integrating ICT, mobile and video technologies into their operations. The adoption of ICT by the Judicial Service will go a long way in improving the productivity and efficiency of Ghana’s court dispositions and based on Boamah’s statement, Ghana’s Legislative Assembly will soon be following suit by also establishing an e-parliamentary system.
