Google Buys Nest for $3.2 Billion

by Fahad Saleem

Google-LogoGoogle has just purchased Nest Labs. The company is famous for it’s high-tech versions of devices like thermostats and smoke detectors. Google bought the company for 3.2 billion dollars in cash. Google has stated that Nest will still operate independently and both co-founders will make the move to Google. Before buying the company, Google had already invested millions of dollars in Nest. This shows that Google has a plan on how to use Nest, even though that plan is not clear yet. Nest provides people the opportunity to have great home solutions technology, and maybe with the help of Google’s language recognition, it could make a wonderful combination and bring Google into our homes. The CEO of Nest said “Google will help us fully realize our vision of the conscious home and allow us to change the world faster than we ever could if we continued to go it alone; we’ve had great momentum, but this is a rocket ship.”

Though Nest has joined Google, it will still continue to support iOS and Apple products. But there is no information on how Google will change or improve with Nest products. That information is being kept secret, but we can expect something exciting and cool. Larry Page, CEO of Google stated,  “Nest’s founders, Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, have built a tremendous team that we are excited to welcome into the Google family. They’re already delivering amazing products you can buy right now–thermostats that save energy and smoke/CO alarms that can help keep your family safe. We are excited to bring great experiences to more homes in more countries and fulfill their dreams!”. As you can see, both Google and Nest are very excited to begin this partnership and we are too.

Google is always making a splash in the news, whether it’s releasing a state-of-the-art product, bringing a user-friendly software or buying a company. Home solution products are in demand and with Google now working with Nest, expect to see efficient and awesome products being released. Maybe a smoke detector that can talk and immediately call the fire department as soon as a fire is detected or a thermostat that can change the temperature by talking to it. It’s great to see Google buying into beneficial companies and we’d love to see more of it in the future.
