Google Icons: Nelson Mandela Among Top-Searched People for 2013
Google recently released its list of most-searched topics, people and terms for 2013 and South African icon Nelson Mandela was among the top three searches, according to reports. The leader was popularly searched even before his passing earlier this month, a Google spokesperson told The Washington Post, but his death led to a surge of searches for more information on his life and death.
“Fast and Furious” actor Paul Walker is also on the global list, which included results from a survey of 72 countries— the largest sample Google has ever taken. Walker died last month in a car crash.
Other top-ranking searches included Apple’s iPhone 5s, followed by searches for “Glee” star Cory Monteith, who died of an accidental drug overdose in July. Also among top searches is Harlem Shake— which Google reported generated 1.7 million videos—Boston Marathon, Royal Baby, Samsung Galaxy S4, PlayStation 4, and North Korea.
