Google will be hosting its first ever workshop in Africa discussing the advantages of Progressive Web Apps over the conventional web and mobile apps user experience. These series of workshop will be taking place as follows:

First stop – Kenya: on Monday, August 15th, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza at Upper Hill, Nairobi starting at 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Second stop -Nigeria: on Thursday, August 18th, 2016 at the VCP Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos starting at 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Last stop – South Africa: on Monday, August 22nd, 2016 at The Capital, in Johannesburg starting at 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

What is and Why use Progressive Web Apps?
In a nutshell, Progressive Web Apps (PWA) is a hybrid of a website and mobile app. That is to say, it gives you the best of the two worlds, and thus is a single platform, which is better compared to a website and mobile app separately.
PWA loads faster even on a slow and unstable internet connection. It re-engages the users by sending out web push notification. Has icon that can be placed on the home screen. The bottom-line, PWA loads as a superior, full-screen experience for the users.
Where is PWA already in use in Africa?
The Google ‘roadshow’ is meant to popularize this new platform; go figure. However, it is already in user in a few businesses across Africa, with Konga (a leading online mall in Nigeria) is using PWA to provide its services to shoppers online.
