The Higher Education Innovative Approaches Award goes to Africa Management Initiative

The Africa Management Initiative (AMI) has been recognized in the global innovation award as the most innovative institution employing creative approaches in giving students higher education. AMI was recognized in the awards dubbed The Wharton-QS Stars Awards 2014: Reimagine Education, organized by QS Quacquarelli Symonds in collaboration with The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

AMI began operation back in 2012 as a social enterprise initiative focusing on improving African entrepreneurs’ management skills and incorporating the use of technology to empower manager and entrepreneurs by using practical, available and locally relevant tools for learning.

We are pleased to be recognized amongst the world’s most innovative learning institutions for using innovation in developing online courses with top business schools, to tackle Africa’s management capacity gap,” said Rebecca Harrison, the CEO at AMI.

AMI came in at second place under the Enterprise category that was bagged by For Class Ltd. The later walked away with the award for having created a unique and first of its kind tool for learning that can drive student engagement through accountability, at the same time streamlining the distribution of content, assessment of students and faculty management of classroom.

QS recognizes that world university rankings cannot measure the incredible innovations in learning solutions taking place in universities and enterprises around the world,” said, NunzioQuacquarelli, the Managing Director of QS. “Wharton QS Stars Awards: Reimagine Education is our answer. We want to shine a light on the very best learning and employability solutions around the world, for the benefit to current and the next generation of students.”

427 universities and enterprises from across 43 different countries submitted their nominations to this global competition which had only 21 awards to give out. The competition had a panel of 25 judges all considered to be international experts when it comes to higher learning.
