All indicators show HMD Global made the wise decision when it bought the license to sell Nokia-branded phones. According to Counterpoint, HMD Global sold over 16.3 million Nokia-branded phones between July and September of 2017.

Of the 16.3 million devices sold, 2.8 million were smartphones and 13.5 million were feature phones. When compared to the IDC stats, HMD Global sold 1.5 million devices in the first half of 2017. Hitting 2.8 million in just three months was no mean feat by any standard.

Counterpoint further reports that HMD Global is now ranked as the 8th smartphone vendor in the world, and the 3rd when it comes to feature phones as at Q3 of 2017.

As a reaffirmation to HMD prospects, Strategy Analytics says the Nokia brand elicited a lot of the interest among consumers leading to a global surge in smartphone shipment. Strategy Analytics views 2018 will be a good year for HMD, alongside other OEMs like Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, Lenovo-Motorola, Vivo, and OPPO.

To show just how much interest the Nokia brand commands. A report from Taiwan shows that the demand for the phone has propelled Foxconn (the manufacture of Nokia devices for HMD Global) to be the top OEM in Q3 of 2017.
