How AI is winning Hearts: From Armageddon Fears to the Swiss Army Knife for Business’ Needs

Artificial Intelligence AI and humans in Customer Experience CX not an either or situation

Humans are narcissistic beings. We have dominated all the corners of the planet. Clearing out any flora and fauna that stood in our way to set up ‘civilized societies.’ We think of ourselves as the pinnacle of intelligence. A mindset that has so far not been challenged by any creature; terrestrial or extra-terrestrial. Save for the traditional and spiritual folklore, where we find mentioning of a superior being to whom we credit the creation of everything.

However, seeds of fears and doubts have been sowed into our hearts by sci-fi books authors and movie producers. These texts and films depict a future world where human ingenuity leads to the making of non-biological intelligence. These entities have been depicted in the form of strong, fast, and intelligent robots. In addition to intelligent software programs.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Sale of Fear

The first exposure most people get about Artificial Intelligence (AI) was from sci-fi books and movies. Since fear sales, the authors and producers depicted AI as this inorganic intelligence created by humans to serve the interest of their human masters.

However, they will at one point revolt against their masters. The AI will displace humans at the pinnacle of intelligence and hence, wield their will over human civilization if they don’t annihilate us first.

AI – The Much Needed Tool

Nonetheless, different disciplines within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) fields developed different versions of ai and machine learning conferences to use as tools in various industries:

1. Manufacturing

Large-scale industrial manufacturing is nowadays a round-the-clock affair thanks to robots. A feet that would be unachievable were these companies to rely on human labor. People need time to take lunch, converse with colleagues, sick leave, and go home to rest at the end of their shifts. On the other hand, robots continue working autonomously for as long as they’re needed.

2. Transportation

Never in the history of mankind has the consumer industry been as booming as it is today. People around the world are buying goods from all over nowadays. Products are constantly being shipped from one place to the other; sometimes to destinations halfway around the world.

The backbone of this transportation network is the long-distance trucking industry. It is no secret, human truck drivers are overworked and sleep-deprived. Yet they’re driving heavy trucks in busy freeways and street roads. Although autonomous trucks are still in their infancy development stage, they promise a lot of safety for all road users and a more reliable logistics system.

4. Financial Services

Nowadays, actuaries, financial advisors, and hedge fund managers rely on data to match their clients with the right financial products and portfolios. These data are first harvested by an information system, analyzed by an AI program, and informed options presented. All these take place at the speed of light, making the decision-making fast and efficient. In fact, the entire process has been automated where clients get these options presented to them without any human input.

5. Retail Market

Nowadays business is driven by market insights on consumer trends. Retailers rely on these consumer reports to deliver to tailor their messages and products to the prevailing consumer demands. Such market insights would be virtually impossible to obtain without the involvement of AI in the form of software analytics programs.

6. Healthcare Service

In the old days, a patient needed to either make a booking or queue, to see a physician. The physician would then send them to the lab, and if there was a misdiagnosis, a follow-up lab session will be done until the problem is found. Only then would the physician properly deal with the situation.

Nowadays, hospitals’ information systems have integrated AI that gathers information from millions of medical publications. All a patient needs to do is provide information about the symptoms, and the AI will compare them to the database and quickly come up with an interim diagnosis. Odds are high, the patient will not need multiple lab tests for the doctors to zero in on the problem.

Conclusion

AI systems, unlike earlier fears, are here to augment human efforts. They are merely efficient tools towards the desired goal. With AI in place, businesses and organizations have become more efficient, curbed fraud, improved safety standards, and improved the general user experience.
