How to Downgrade OS X El Capitan to OS X Yosemite

Apple recently launched Mac OS X El Capitan public beta version. The new iteration of OS X is fluid, stable and fast. But as we all know, public beta versions are full of lags, crashes and problems; they are sluggish and you could not trust them with your data. If you installed OS X El Capitan, and want to downgrade back to OS X Yosemite, then you are at the right place because in this article I will walk you through all the steps to downgrade OS X El Capitan to OS X Yosemite.

Downgrade OS X El Capitan to OS X Yosemite

Your Mac must be connected to a stable Wifi internet connection for the process to take place easily.

Open the  menu in Mac and click on “restart”.

Now press and hold down the Command+R button during the rebooting process of your Mac.

Go to OS X Utilities sector and click on Disk Utility.

Click Continue.

Select Startup Disk according to your choice.

Click on Erase tab.

Type in any name you want, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for the format and click “Erase”.

Once the process is done, close the disk utility.

Let’s now move on the process of reinstalling Mac OS X Yosemite.

Go to the OS X Utilities section and click on Reinstall OS X.

Click Continue on the OS X Yosemite Installer.

Just follow the on-screen instructions and agree to the licensing terms when asked.

That’s it. Restart the Mac and you will see that Mac OS X Yosemite is running on your machine.

If you took backup of your device, you will be asked if you want to restore the back using time machine. You can click Yes, or if you don’t want to restore the backup for now, you can always restore backup later. Just restart Mac, keep holding Command+R key and then click on Restore from Time Machine Backup to restore the data.

After following instructions it only gave me the option to reinstall El Capitan
