How to Enhance an Image: 5 Ways to Improve Your Digital Photographs

Web visitors make snap judgments when they visit sites; in fact, it takes as little as 50 milliseconds for them to determine whether or not they like what they see.

You better believe it when we say every little detail matters, especially if your site is image-heavy.

If you’re wondering how to enhance an image, then keep reading. We’ll give you 5 useful ways to improve your digital photographs.

Crop out Unnecessary Details

When you take a photo, you may be tempted to keep the entire image to show your customers. But sometimes, less is more.

For instance, if you have a picture of someone standing at the beach, overlooking the sea, you may want to crop out the majority of the ocean. This is especially true if the person is in the corner of the photo.

Not only will this get rid of empty space, but it’ll also have a stronger pull for drawing the eye toward the main subject.

Blur the Background

Let’s say you want to keep the entire background in the previous example for whatever reason. But you still want to draw your visitors’ attention to the person in the corner.

A great way to achieve this is by blurring the background. That way, people can still tell the person’s at the beach, but they won’t be distracted by all the small details in the background. Instead, they’ll look straight at the person.

Play With the Saturation

Intensely colored photos are guaranteed to get attention. But how do you achieve this?

By adjusting the saturation levels. If you add more saturation, your image will become brighter and bolder. But if you decrease the saturation, it’ll become more faded. With complete desaturation, you’ll get a black and white image.

Do note that using too much saturation can make your photo look strange, so take care when using this type of enhancement.

Add Some Text

Adding text on photo can be a great way to grab people’s attention. But be careful not to choose clashing colors or overfill the space with text.

Make sure the font and color you choose are bold but not too dominant. With the right text, your images will be hard to resist and it’ll guarantee that visitors look at what you have to offer.

Add Filters

Previously, you had to work hard to create your own filters. You’d have to play around with not only the saturation, but also the brightness, contrast, and more.

But thanks to apps like Instagram, today, you can easily add filters with the tap of a button. Then, you’ll have to adjust the slider to get the optimal image.

Make sure you take advantage of this feature and try out all filters available to find out which one’s best for each image.
