How to Evolve Your Computer Usage Experience without Trading in For a Newer Model

How to Evolve Your Computer Usage Experience without Trading in For a Newer Model

If you’re the kind of person who pores over technological buys in painstaking detail, then you know what I mean when I say that trading it in, or replacing it is a bittersweet moment.

Sure, you’ve had that device for a year or two, if not more, and it makes sense to upgrade. You might need a better processor, more RAM, or more storage. If you’re someone with a more intense need from your device’s specifications, you might need a better graphics card to keep up with those demands.

The market is constantly evolving, and there are many reasons to upgrade to keep pace with it.

Social Standing:

In this dog eat dog world, one of the hardest things to be is old-school.

If you don’t have the latest iPhone, or the newest Alien ware laptop, or even a fancy car, you’re a dud, and have to face the judgemental eyes of everyone who has ever known you. (If you know the right kind of people, that’s strictly not true, but it sure feels like it sometimes).

It’s hard not to keep improving outward indicators of success when you desire to look better than you are.  It may be the most superficial of reasons, but sadly that is the world we live in.

Profession Based Needs:

If it’s beyond the superficial for you, and your profession necessitates the soaped up machines; if you’re a graphic designer, a 3D modeller or renderer, video-game designer or video editor, or even just a hardcore gamer, you may know how the market feels like its churning out a newer, better device the minute you commit your funds.

So, it’s not always easy to stay afloat of stringent software demands, and no matter how you try, you are always one step behind.

But just as there are many reasons to trade up, there are also some pretty heavy reasons to think twice before you move on before you truly need to.

Money:

With all that these powerful beasts- small machines- are fast, efficient and multifunctional, one thing they assuredly are NOT, is cheap.

If you’re constantly finding the need to hop from device to device, and model to model, you definitely know how it feels to open your wallet and have flies come out like in the cartoons (or that deafening screech out of your mouth at the end of your credit card’s billing cycle). Even if you had unlimited resources and funds- which most of us simply don’t, there’s another reason to consider holding off on replacing your device.

Environment:

If you’re at all concerned with the Earth’s environment, you also know that our current practice of replacing one device with another, is simply not sustainable. Landfills are saturated with phones, computers and many other devices with little fault beyond their becoming obsolete.

The vast majority of Americans – 96% – now own a cellphone of some kind. The share of Americans that own smartphones is now 81%, up from just 35% in Pew Research Center’s first survey of smartphone ownership conducted in 2011. Along with mobile phones, Americans own a range of other information devices. Nearly three-quarters of U.S. adults aged 20 and above now own desktop or laptop computers, while roughly half now own tablet computers and roughly half own e-reader devices.

Statistics also show that most people only use their phones or laptops for little over a year or two- based on their contract providers- before moving on to the next model.

This is just one country’s statistics. Can you imagine the electronic waste the world as a whole would generate?

Solution

What if I told you, there was a solution? The best 2080 ti does not come with a newer, fancier laptop or PC. In fact, you can cut the effective costs in half, save the environment at-least a little, and buy the top of the line the market has to offer, without having to say goodbye to your computing buddy at all.

In this time and age of blatant consumerism, you can be a trendsetter, and instead of trading, you can evolve your current PC as it is by switching to an external graphics card.
