Have you, for whatever reasons, had to think about signing out of a Google account on your Android device? Perhaps, you were given (inheriting) a phone from a friend or family member. Maybe you have two or more Google accounts and would like to switch from using one to the other a particular Android device.
Whatever your reasons may be, I am certain you must have thought of signing out of the Gmail app, or any of the Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Google Play Music etc) and realized they simply don’t have a sign out option. Yes, that is right, the Gmail app or any of the Google apps on Android device don’t have the sign out option.
To sign out of either Gmail or any of the Google apps on your phone, you need to sign out of your Google account on the device. That will also sign you out of all Google apps on that device, including the Gmail app.
Steps for Signing out of Google Account
To sign out of Google account, go to Settings > Accounts > Google and at the very bottom of the screen, you will see two options; Sync now and Remove account. This illustration is per Android 6.0.1, but the process is more or less the same across any version of the mobile OS you might have on your device.
So now that you know how to sign out of Google account on Android device, there is no need of going the hard way of factory resetting the device and start from a fresh. Though factory reset will log you out of your Google account alright, but you will also be logged out of any other account on the device, including losing some of the phone’s data like pictures, videos, call logs, and messages among other things.
