Many users can still open iPhotos without any trick. But a lot of users have reported that whenever they open Macs /Applications/ folder to launch iPhoto app, they see a cross on the iPhoto icon. A lot of users have also reported getting the following error on the launch of iPhoto app.

“In order to open “iPhoto.app”, you must update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store”.

You can fix this problem by following some easy steps. You could open iPhotos again instead of Photos app in your Mac OS X.

When the error is shown click the ‘search on app store’ button. Or just open the app store in your Mac and locate iPhoto app by going to the ‘Purchases’.

Click on “Install” next to iPhoto. The installation will start.

That’s it. iPhoto app will be installed and activated in your Mac. You can even run iPhotos and Photos app, but the best practice is to stick to one app.

If you don’t want to download iPhoto app because this would muddle up things, you could always access and open the iPhoto app from the Mac OS X terminal. Type the following command to open iPhoto in Mac.

/Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto &

But if you opt for this option, you will have to open the iPhoto app by typing the command in the terminal every time you want it to get launched.
